Profile-1

PROFILE

My name is David Jones and I’m a freelance digital designer based in Hull, UK. I specialise in website design, whether it’s crafting pixel perfect user interfaces, putting together a design library to assist the development process, creating low fidelity wireframes or building a website in Squarespace.

Since completing a BA Hons Web Design Degree at Lincoln University, I've worked with large scale organisations, creative agencies and start-ups over a ten year period.  When taking on a project I explore every aspect of how a business can progress with digital design at the forefront.

As well as offering website design as my main speciality, I also work across print design, brand identities and other areas of focus. You'll be able to see a full list of my services and past experience listed below.

When I'm not at my desk designing, I enjoy taking photographs, travelling to new cities, attending football games and running a 35mm film photography page called Hull City On Film on X (Twitter) and Instagram.

SERVICES

UI / Website Design
I've been designing interfaces since I started my design journey back in 2009 when at university. I have a keen eye for detail and try to achieve the cleanest design that can be made when receiving a brief. Utilising strong colour palettes, striking typography and a consistent layout approach throughout.
Wireframing
I work on low-fidelity wireframes at the start of each project. This allows the client to see how the product will be laid out without many design intricacies being implemented. It often helps to drive decisions around content, user experience etc.
Prototyping
I use prototyping as a way of showcasing how a proposed area of a product will function without going into the development phase of a project. These vary between low-fidelty wireframes or high-fidelity user interface designs but the outcome is the same, with both displaying a need to define the user journey for a specific area.
Design Libraries
I put together a design library with every digital product I work on. This acts as an aid for developers to use as a reference when a project has been handed over. It covers areas such as typography, button styling, colours, iconography, form elements and much more. As well as creating the design library, I also combine chosen elements into a design system in Figma to help with the creation of future mock-ups.
User Research
I conduct user research when working on a digital product. Ranging from user sessions to highlight pain-points with the existing product, showcasing prototypes to gain user feedback on proposed solutions and  other general product research.
Squarespace Website Builds
When I'm not creating a bespoke design, I use Squarespace to assist me with the building of a website. Squarespace offers me stability from a coding point of view and allows me to create a template based website solution for my client.
HTML & CSS Capabilities
I've worked around development teams since I started my career in design. This has allowed me to pick up knowledge of basic front-end coding and what can and can't be achieved from a development point of view.
Presenting
When working on any of the above solutions, I showcase the product by having regular demos. This allows me to work with the client by taking on any of their feedback, as well as user feedback and shows how the product is evolving over an early, middle and final stage.
Other
As well as specialising in the above solutions, I have experience in the following areas of focus. Brand Identities, Print Design, Presentation / Document Templates, Photography, Social Media Management, Google Ads and Email Templates.
